In April 200 the Hobart City Council presented an exhibition to mark the final year of the twentieth century. Using Council's archival plans and contemporary photographs the exhibition provided an insight inot how houses and patterns of living had changed in that time.

Many visitors to the exhibition commented upon the need for a publication, to serve as as more permanent record of the material and research on display.
